INTRODUCTION

The 2018 “China Yangzhou” New Toy Design Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Yangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Office of the Founding of Yangzhou City, and the New Bureau of Wenguang of Yangzhou City. It is organized by the People’s Government of Hanjiang District of Yangzhou City and organized by Zhejiang University, and co-organized by the China Industrial Design Association. It is held from May 7 to September 28, 2018. The competition solicits works from all over the world. It aims to discover excellent toy design, attract talents, projects and capital, promote the organic integration of cultural innovation and traditional industries, and promote the transformation and upgrading of Yangzhou’s plush toy industry. Yangzhou Hanjiang District will be built to be a new height of China’s toy industry that leads the direction of innovation and development of the Chinese plush toy industry.

On the basis of Yangzhou plush toy industry, the new development orientation of “Plush Toy +” is highlighted.

PARTICIPATION

Participants

Enterprises, design institutes, research institutes and individuals from any country or region in the world are eligible to participate. The same work may not be submitted for product awards and creative awards at the same time.

Categories of Entries

With the progress of human society, the definition of toy has been changing. Nowadays, it has become a widely accepted public concept to teach through lively activities and live a life of entertainment. The contest focuses on plush toys but is not limited to “plush toys”. A variety of designs can be presented in the form of plush, such as plush supplies, teaching aids, home appliances, or plush service designs. The competition focuses on plush toys but it is not limited to “stuffed toys”. All designs in plush form are acceptable, such as plush supplies, teaching aids, home appliances, or plush service designs.

* Product Group *

  1. Requirements: Works that are free of intellectual property disputes and that have been listed or not listed within six months but can be publicly displayed before this reappraisal are eligible for entry.
  2. Evaluation criteria:
    • Innovativeness. Works should have unique features like breakthrough innovation or incremental innovation.
    • Sustainability. Pay attention to the educational characteristics of toys, with humane and moral concerns, consider the sustainable development of industry.
    • Playability. Pay attention to toy playability, the application and integration of new technology, new materials and new processes.
    • Commerciality. In line with the trend of upgrading consumption, works pay attention to the value of commodities and the feasibility of business models.
  3. Form of work: physical works + electronic exhibition board (both essential)

* Creativity Group *

  1. Requirements: Works should be free of intellectual property disputes and have not been publicly released.
  2. Evaluation criteria:
    • Innovation. Innovative and unique, it can be image, function or mode.
    • Modern. The design is in line with the orientation of modern life, the features of nature and culture. The model should be vivid and with visual impact.
    • Complete expression. Express clearly and completely. Works contains the design image, the name and the instruction to express the idea and the symbolic significance.

  1. Submission method
    • One work can only be submitted once, not repeatedly. One work may not be used for both groups.
    • The e-mail subject, registration form, electronic exhibition board, zip file and entry must be named in the form of “entry group-work name-author name(s)”, for example “Product group-work name-Tony Wood”; if you participate as a team, please mark all the names of the members, for example “Concept group-work name-Bob Zhang + Ari Stack +Pandora Lam”.

  2. Requirements of submitted content
    • Registration form: please download the form at www.yangzhoutoys.com, our official website, and fill out this form truthfully.
    • Electronic exhibition board: Quantity: 1 to 3 pieces / file format: JPG / resolution: 120dpi / size: vertical version A0, the file size of each board is not more than 10M. No information about the author such as name, company, university shall be reflected on the page.
  3. Submitting deadline
    • E-mail closed at 18:00 on 28 August.
    • Physical work acceptance time: August 28, 2018 (based on the delivery date, please estimate the delivery time and send it in advance).
  4. Prototyping Requirements:
    • If the participant need to proof the design products, the organizing committee can contact to prototyping services. For details, please contact the contact person or email in the competition. Prototyping services are charged at cost, at the participant’s own expense.

The competition is divided into two stages: the preliminary and semi-finals:

Project training will be conducted by experts from universities, e-commerce enterprises and supply chain enterprises after the announcement of the results of the preliminary evaluation of the contest to help the participants to optimize the ideas. After the results of the review are published, the awarded works will access to political and productive resources such as butt capital, high-quality supply chain enterprises, large-scale e-commerce platforms, and local government policy support, and will rapidly transform creativity and design into the market. JURY & CEREMONY

Jury

The competition invites authoritative experts to serve as judges on a global scale. To highlight the cross-border integration of design and enhance the comprehensiveness of the review, we have invited experts toy filed and other related fields such as education, science and technology, commerce, and media.

Ceremony

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Yangzhou City in early October. Please pay attention to the official website of the contest for the specific time and place.

MUST KNOWN

Intellectual Property

The competition rules that the participants own the intellectual property rights (patent rights, design rights, etc.) for the submitted works. However, the Organizing Committee has the right to use the works for exhibitions and can be copied during the promotion process for the contest website, press releases and other promotional materials. The other rules of the competition are explained by the Competition Organizing Committee. All participants’ information submitted to the Organizing Committee must be true and valid, and the resulting legal liability is assumed by the participants themselves. The participants will be responsible for the related issues concerning intellectual property rights and other issues of the works which are raised by third parties, and the Organizing Committee of the Competition shall not assume any responsibility.

Retrieval of physical works

All local works will be retrieved by the Organizing Committee in mid-October in accordance with the notice of the Organizing Committee. If the models of works need to be returned after the match, please contact the Organizing Committee within one month after the final review results of the contest published. If participants do not contact, the organizing committee will handle it on their own. The organizing committee will send confirmed returned works by express mail before November 1st (default SF Express, postage to pay, please fill in the registration form to provide the name, address and contact number of the recipient. The applicants will be responsible for the loss of the mail caused by the inaccurate information. The non-local participants could contact the Organizing Committee if you haven’t received works after November 10th .

Statements

  1. Due to the need of judging, the judges will conduct multiple operations on all the works, which will cause inevitable loss and damage. The Organizing Committee will not assume any responsibility for the consequences.
  2. The Organizing Committee will review, exhibit, move and keep the works. If the works are lost or damaged, the Organizing Committee will not be responsible for them.
  3. The Organizing Committee will send back the works in accordance with Article 11, and will not be responsible for any lost or damaged works during the mailing process.
  4. The Organizing Committee has no liability for damages caused by force majeure such as natural disasters, wars or national policies.
  5. Once the works are submitted, the participants agree to the above terms by default. The Grand Prize Organizing Committee reserves the right of final interpretation and jurisdiction.
